Gujarat grant-in-aid school employees threaten statewide agitation from November 25

A committee representing staff members has demanded the cancellation of recent appointments to a recruitment body for non-government aided schools.

Employees of grant-in-aid schools in Gujarat have threatened to launch a statewide protest starting November 25 if the state government does not meet their demands, according to Urban Acres.

The committee representing these employees sent a letter to the chief minister opposing the appointment of three members to a recruitment selection committee. This committee is responsible for choosing academic staff for non-government aided secondary and higher secondary schools.

The committee alleged that the state education department's October 23 order favoured certain individuals, including those who had taken voluntary retirement. They claimed the decision gave preference to one organisation while excluding other recognised groups with larger memberships.

The group also stated that long-standing demands from teachers, principals, school managements, and administrative staff have not seen satisfactory progress. They claimed that assurances from previous cabinet-level discussions have not resulted in concrete action, even after the new council of ministers completed one year in office.

The committee has demanded the immediate cancellation of the recent appointments and a resolution to all pending issues. They warned that they would pursue a Gandhian-style protest if their requirements are not addressed by the start of the new academic session on November 25.
