Security teams sweep Ahmedabad and Rajkot central jails after bomb threat
Police and bomb-disposal squads were deployed at the facilities on November 3 following an email sent to the Gujarat Director General of Police's office.
Security agencies conducted sweeps at Ahmedabad Central Jail and Rajkot Central Jail on November 3 after the Gujarat Director General of Police’s office received a bomb threat email, according to Urban Acres.
The email mentioned the Popatpara area facility and referenced the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts. It also included the phrases “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Khalistan Zindabad”, while warning that a major surprise would follow.
Local police, crime branch teams, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, and dog squads searched the jail compounds, internal barracks, and surrounding areas. No explosive devices have been found at either facility.
Security measures have been increased at both jails, with officials performing detailed checks on people and vehicles entering the premises.
The Gujarat Cyber Crime Cell and State Intelligence teams are currently examining the email's source to determine if it was sent by a terrorist organisation or individuals attempting to cause panic.
The investigation is ongoing to establish if the message is linked to a specific person, group, or location.
