Nine arrested after attack on BSF personnel in Tripura's Ashabari
Police conducted an overnight operation following an alleged assault on three Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district.
Police arrested nine people in an overnight operation following an alleged attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to The Federal and ANI.
The incident occurred on Monday morning after BSF personnel detained a person suspected of involvement in smuggling activities. Reports indicate that a group of villagers attacked three BSF personnel, attempted to snatch their firearms, and vandalised a government vehicle.
Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma said on Tuesday that the arrested individuals would be produced in court later in the day. He stated that the attack by villagers against security personnel was shameful and that the police would ensure all involved face the law.
Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault on social media, describing the violence against security forces as completely unacceptable. He directed authorities to take swift and stringent action against those responsible.
The investigation is being personally monitored by the Director General of Police, and the BSF Inspector General has arrived in the area to hold meetings with police officials. Authorities are working to arrest those who are currently absconding.
