Nine arrested for attacking BSF personnel in Tripura's Ashabari

Police conducted an overnight operation in Sepahijala district following an assault on three Border Security Force troopers.

Nine people, including three women, have been arrested following an alleged attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to ANI and The New Indian Express.

The incident occurred on Monday morning during a road blockade enforced by villagers. The attackers reportedly used sticks to strike the personnel, tried to take their weapons, and caused damage to a government vehicle.

Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma said the BSF personnel on duty had observed smuggling activities on the border. He stated that after the personnel challenged smugglers, a scuffle occurred and packets of ganja were recovered from the site.

The SP said that after the initial confrontation, villagers mobilised and blocked the road. A BSF local company commander, a constable, and a driver were subsequently attacked while travelling through the area.

Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the assault, stating that violence against security forces is unacceptable. He said authorities were directed to take swift and stringent legal action against those responsible.

The Director General of Police is personally monitoring the investigation, while the BSF Inspector General has arrived in the area to meet with police authorities, according to reports.
