Northern Railway suspends platform ticket sales at six Delhi stations

The restrictions aim to manage heavy passenger crowds during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals.

Northern Railway will temporarily stop selling platform tickets and limit parcel services at several major stations in Delhi to manage festive crowds, according to reports by The New Indian Express and The Indian Express.

Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railway, stated that platform ticket sales will be suspended from November 3 to November 14 at New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ghaziabad, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Anand Vihar Halt.

Exemptions for platform tickets apply to women requiring assistance and those accompanying elderly, sick, illiterate, or specially abled passengers. Passengers may only carry personal luggage in passenger coaches, though the booking of registered newspapers and magazines will be allowed subject to safety considerations, the CPRO said.

Parcel service restrictions will be implemented at various stations. At New Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Junction, departmental parcel booking will be restricted from November 3 to November 15, while loading and unloading of all parcel types will be limited from November 5 to November 15.

At Hazrat Nizamuddin, restrictions on departmental parcel booking and all parcel loading and unloading will be in effect from November 5 to November 8. However, loading and unloading at the station's VP siding will continue during this time.
