PM Modi inaugurates, lays foundation stone for Pune Metro projects worth Rs 21,800 crore

The projects include the inauguration of the Pink Line and the foundation stone laying for Phase-II of the Pune Metro network.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro projects worth approximately Rs 21,800 crore through video conferencing on Tuesday, according to ANI. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also participated in the programme.

The Prime Minister inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3, known as the Pink Line, which was built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore. Spanning about 23 kilometres, the Pink Line connects Maan to the District Court Metro station, providing connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated that the Pink Line will help reduce dependence on private vehicles and ease traffic congestion. The line is expected to meet around 30 per cent of its electricity requirements through solar power, and it will be operated entirely by women train operators, according to The News Mill.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for Phase-II of the Pune Metro, which is estimated to cost around Rs 13,500 crore. This phase includes Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A to expand the city's network.

Under Phase-II, Line 2A will connect Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Line 2B will connect Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi, covering a total of 12.75 kilometres. Line 4 will span 25.52 kilometres from Kharadi to Khadakwasla, while Line 4A will cover 6.12 kilometres from Nal Stop to Manik Baug.

The new corridors will integrate with intercity bus services and the existing metro network through interchange facilities at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass.
