Pune will become model city in urban mobility, says Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence in Pune's urban mobility after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated metro projects.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Pune Metro projects worth approximately Rs 21,800 crore via video conferencing on Tuesday, according to ANI.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that 120 kilometres of metro lines in Pune are either completed or under construction. He said this expansion would make the city a model for urban mobility.
The Prime Minister inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3, also known as the Pink Line, which was built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore. The 23-kilometre corridor connects Maan to the District Court metro station, linking the Hinjewadi IT hub to Shivajinagar.
Fadnavis noted that the Pink Line is important for the Hinjewadi region, which he described as the country's IT capital. He said thousands of people commute to the area daily and often face one to two hours of traffic congestion.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the new line is a green metro that will generate 30 per cent of its own energy requirements. He added that the Government of India provided the entire Viability Gap Funding for the project while the Maharashtra government handled land and acquisition.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Phase-II of the Pune Metro, estimated to cost around Rs 13,500 crore. This phase includes Pune Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A to expand the network across residential and commercial hubs.
