SIT to probe alleged irregularities in Kerala Dy.SP recruitment
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered the expansion of an ongoing investigation into the Kerala Public Service Commission recruitment process.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has directed Inspector General of Police S. Ajeetha Begum to expand a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into alleged procedural violations during a special recruitment for Deputy Superintendent of Police (Trainee) for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe, according to The Hindu.
The direction follows a complaint from R.S. Sasikumar, chairperson of the Save University Campaign Committee. Sasikumar alleged that the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) bypassed rules to assist a former Students Federation of India (SFI) leader in his appointment.
The complaint claims the top-ranked candidate, Jithin K.J., only passed his B.Com through grace marks and previously failed to make the main rank list for police constable recruitment. It further alleges the PSC hurried the process at the end of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's term to finish appointments before they left office.
A total of 17,392 candidates applied for the post. The recruitment process included a written exam on December 31, 2025, a physical test on March 16, 2026, and interviews on April 22, with the final rank list published on May 6, 2026.
Separately, a Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram granted the Crime Branch one-day custody of former PSC deputy secretary P. Satheesh. He is the first accused in a different case involving alleged examination irregularities for State Planning Board appointments.
