Three injured as omnibus hits lorry on Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway
The accident occurred at Alamelumangapuram in Vellore town during the early hours of Tuesday involving a vehicle carrying empty liquor bottles.
Three people, including two drivers, sustained injuries after an omnibus collided with a lorry on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway (NH 48) at Alamelumangapuram in Vellore town on Tuesday, according to The Hindu.
The injured have been identified as omnibus driver S. Aravindran, 23, of Natrampalli, lorry driver T. Gubenthiran, 48, and lorry cleaner Mohammed Rafiq, 39, both from Vaniyambadi.
Initial enquiries suggest the omnibus was travelling from Bengaluru to Chennai with 22 passengers when the driver lost control and hit the lorry from behind around 2 a.m.
The lorry was transporting approximately 47,000 empty liquor bottles from Tasmac outlets to a godown in Maduravoyal, Chennai, when the impact caused it to overturn and spill the bottles.
Following the collision, the omnibus rammed a steel median and moved into the opposite lane, though the passengers escaped unhurt.
Superintendent of Police N.U. Sivaraman inspected the site and directed the restoration of traffic, which had been diverted to the service lane. The injured are stable at Government Medical College Hospital as a probe continues.
