Astrobase to invest ₹500 crore in Karnataka rocket engine facility

The space-tech company plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Adinarayana Hosahalli Industrial Area to create over 1,250 jobs.

Space-tech company Astrobase plans to invest ₹500 crore to establish a rocket engine manufacturing facility at the Adinarayana Hosahalli Industrial Area in Karnataka, according to BusinessLine. The proposed facility will be developed on 10 acres and is expected to generate more than 1,250 jobs.

Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil said the plant will have an annual production capacity of 40 rocket engines. The company is developing indigenous rocket propulsion technologies, reusable launch systems, and medium-lift launch vehicles.

Astrobase aims to scale its annual payload delivery capacity to 100 tonnes by 2032 and 1,000 tonnes by 2040. Patil noted that the company is led by professionals with experience in India’s space programme, including former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists.

The announcement was made alongside a proposal from Netherlands-based Bayer to invest ₹200 crore for a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru. This centre is expected to create 220 jobs.

Patil said Bayer intends to hold a groundbreaking ceremony before the Global Investors Meet scheduled for April 2027. Bayer has operated in India for 125 years and employs approximately 11,000 people.

The discussions involved Astrobase co-founder Neeraj Khandelwal, Chief Financial Officer Nishant Jain, Head of Business and Strategy Puneet Balasubramanian, and Bayer’s Himanshu Patel.
