Industry leaders seek faster clearances in West Bengal industrial policy

Business representatives have requested transparent land allocation and employment-linked incentives ahead of the state's new policy unveiling on November 5.

Industry leaders in West Bengal have called for quicker project approvals, transparent land allocation, and improved infrastructure before the state government unveils its new industrial policy on November 5, according to Urban Acres.

The proposed policy aims to attract investment, speed up industrialisation, and generate jobs. Representatives have requested measures such as interest subsidies, state goods and services tax (GST) reimbursements, and support for employees' provident fund contributions.

Purti Realty managing director Mahesh Agarwal said incentives could boost fresh investments and manufacturing. He noted that expansion would increase the need for industrial parks, warehouses, and logistics hubs.

Suraj Agarwal, co-chairman of the agriculture committee of the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce, suggested a focus on agro-based industries and cold storage. He said connecting farmers with industry could raise rural incomes and create jobs.

Ashok Bengani, president of the Ankurhati Gems & Jewellery Manufacturers’ Welfare Association, said the jewellery sector needs better infrastructure and market access to bring back skilled artisans. Sugam managing director Suhel Saraf stated that a single-window mechanism and transparent land frameworks would provide investors with predictability.

Ambuja Neotia Group chairman Harshvardhan Neotia called for simpler procedures and time-bound clearances. Additionally, Great Eastern Energy Corporation vice-chairman and managing director Prashant Modi urged that natural gas be recognised as an enabler of industrial growth.
