Tamil Nadu allows six daily shows for new Tamil film releases

Theatres can screen films from 6 am to 2.30 am for one week following a new release.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has ordered that all theatres in Tamil Nadu may screen six shows per day for one week starting from the release date of new Tamil films, according to ANI.

The decision follows requests from the Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Film Active Producers Associations, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association.

Under the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, theatres are generally permitted to screen four shows daily under the 'C' Form licence.

The government previously allowed five screenings for new Tamil films during their first seven days, as well as on weekends and local festivals.

The new order increases this limit to six screenings, which will also apply on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days.

The permitted operating window extends from 6 am until 2.30 am the following day. The state government intends to amend the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules to implement this change.
