Sundar C says Mookuthi Amman 2 is a fantasy thriller
The director explained that the sequel starring Nayanthara is a standalone film with no connection to the 2020 original.
Director Sundar C has described his upcoming film Mookuthi Amman 2, starring Nayanthara, as a fantasy thriller rather than a typical Amman film, according to The Hindu.
The filmmaker stated that unlike traditional stories where a deity saves a family or a nation, this story features an Amman who has to save herself.
Sundar C said the project happened coincidentally after producer Ishari K Ganesh approached him regarding a sequel to RJ Balaji's Mookuthi Amman. The director noted that he had been considering a story set in two different periods that fit the concept.
The director clarified that Mookuthi Amman 2 is a standalone sequel and has no connection to the 2020 film, despite the return of Nayanthara and veteran actor Urvashi.
Sundar C explained that while the film could have had a different title, there is a business advantage to making it a franchise. He added that he cast Urvashi because she is one of his favourite artists.
Regarding the lead role, the director said Nayanthara has the aura to play Amman and carries her stardom well.
