Tamil Nadu allows six daily shows for new Tamil films
The state government will permit increased screenings for one week starting from the release date of new Tamil movies.
The Tamil Nadu government announced on Tuesday that theatres across the state can screen newly released Tamil films for up to six shows a day. This applies for one week from the date of release, with timings running from 6 a.m. to 2.30 a.m. the following day, according to The Hindu.
The decision follows representations made to the state government by various film producers’ associations. Based on directions from Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957, will be amended to accommodate this change.
Under the new rules, the permission for six daily shows also applies to Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and local festival days. Previously, the government had allowed five shows a day for seven days from the release date.
The previous policy also permitted five shows a day on public holidays, local festival days, Saturdays, and Sundays.
