Delhi traders claim ₹10,000-11,000 crore loss from INDIA bloc rally
Chamber of Trade and Industry Chairman Brijesh Goyal said 2,50,000 shops remained closed due to the rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi's trading sector faced an estimated loss of ₹10,000-11,000 crore because of disruptions caused by the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, according to Business Standard on Sunday.
Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal said approximately 20 to 25 major markets near the venue were affected. He stated that about 2,50,000 out of nearly 3,00,000 shops remained closed due to panic regarding the expected arrival of crowds and vehicles.
Goyal claimed that the movement of 300,000 to 400,000 people who typically travel to the capital for business was also impacted. He further said that around 5,000 vehicles, including trucks and small tempos, could not operate, which disrupted the transport of goods to Old Delhi and Central Delhi markets.
The chairman noted that the losses were significant as the markets are in the peak Diwali season. He questioned who would compensate the traders for the disruption.
Automotive Parts Merchant Association (APMA) President Vinay Narang also expressed concerns regarding the rally's timing and venue. Speaking to ANI, Narang said that while they do not oppose democratic protests, the location is in the middle of a major commercial zone near markets such as Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
