HYDRAA dismantles illegal borewell connections in Tellapur
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) conducted raids on Monday following local protests against unauthorised groundwater extraction.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams dismantled illegal borewell connections, pipelines, and water-storage structures in Tellapur on Monday, according to Telangana Today.
The crackdown occurred after a news report on October 31 highlighted illegal groundwater extraction in various parts of the area. This followed a protest by local residents on October 31 against an alleged illegal water mafia.
Tellapur Neighbourhood Association (TeNA) president Ramana Eshwarigari said that revenue officials acted quickly after being informed of the demonstration to seize the illegal borewells. He noted that HYDRAA used earthmovers to remove the structures and connecting pipes.
Earlier, on October 31, a delegation from TeNA met with the Mandal Revenue Officer to request immediate measures against the unauthorised extraction of groundwater.
TeNA has asked local residents to stay alert and monitor the situation until all illegal extraction points are seized and authorities take decisive action.
