Three people arrested in Uttar Pradesh for alleged bribery

The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment conducted two separate anti-corruption operations in Banda and Agra on Monday.

The Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment arrested three individuals, including two junior engineers, during anti-corruption operations in Banda and Agra on Monday, according to the Hindustan Times.

In Banda, a junior engineer named Salman, posted at the regional office of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, was caught red-handed. He allegedly took ₹1 lakh from a granite plant operator to avoid action regarding a pollution-related notice.

The complainant stated he received the notice via WhatsApp on June 18 without a site inspection. After being told to meet Salman, the operator alleged the engineer demanded the money to prevent further action.

In a separate incident in Agra, the vigilance team's Agra sector arrested junior engineer Vinesh Yadav and tenderer Lokendra Singh. The two were allegedly taking ₹10,000 to facilitate a new electricity connection in the Shamsabad electricity sub-division.

The complainant, Arjun, had applied for the connection on October 24. He alleged that after a site inspection, Yadav demanded the payment to approve the request.

A case is being registered against Salman at the Kotwali Nagar police station in Banda, while a case is being filed against Yadav and Singh at the UP vigilance establishment police station in Agra.
