Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra apologises for remarks against Congress leaders
The apology follows the appearance of a poster criticising the leader at the residence of former chief minister B S Yediyurappa in Bengaluru.
Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra apologised on Tuesday for comments made against Congress leaders, stating he used certain words in anger without intending to cause hurt, according to a Press Trust of India report featured by India Today.
The apology was issued after a poster targeting Vijayendra was placed on the compound wall of the Bengaluru home of his father, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa. Staff later removed the poster.
Speaking to reporters in Kolar, Vijayendra said he admitted to using certain words in Davanagere but maintained they were not used deliberately. He offered an apology if his choice of words hurt Congress leaders.
Vijayendra explained that his agitation stemmed from the Congress government's handling of the reservation issue and unemployment among young people. He noted that unemployed youths across the state are protesting against the government.
The BJP leader had previously accused the Congress government of failing to defend the reservation matter before the Karnataka High Court. He had also alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission.
While withdrawing his previous words, Vijayendra maintained that his comments were prompted by concerns regarding recruitment and the treatment of marginalised communities.
