Visakhapatnam man allegedly duped into Russian Army, mother seeks help
The mother of J Vamsi has appealed to the Centre and Andhra Pradesh government to secure her son's safe return from Russia.
A man from Visakhapatnam, J Vamsi, has allegedly been deceived into joining the Russian Army after travelling to Russia for work, according to Telangana Today, Hindustan Times and ThePrint. His mother, J Appalakonda, has appealed to the Central and state governments to intervene and ensure his safe return.
Appalakonda said her son went to Russia expecting fruit-packing work but found no employment. She stated he subsequently contacted a Nepali national who promised better-paying jobs in Ukraine and took him there, where he was allegedly deceived into joining the army.
In a video message, a person purported to be Vamsi, alongside four other Indians, claimed they were being sent to frontline areas near the Russia-Ukraine border. He alleged they were promised food-packing jobs by the Nepali national and were made to sign Russian documents without understanding the contents.
The individual purported to be Vamsi also claimed they were unaware they had been granted Russian citizenship. He said that when they enquired about their Indian citizenship, they were told they were now Russian citizens.
Responding to the appeal, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh expressed concern over the situation. In a post on X, Lokesh said his office would coordinate with authorities to assist in their safe and speedy return home.
