Indian Navy seeks in-principle approval for Project 18A destroyer programme

The Defence Acquisition Council has approved a plan to develop next-generation stealth guided-missile destroyers costing approximately ₹80,000 crore.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given in-principle approval to Project 18A, according to The Hindu.

This programme aims to develop next-generation stealth guided-missile destroyers for the Indian Navy to transform its surface combat fleet.

The project is estimated to cost around ₹80,000 crore and involves building warships that are larger and more technologically advanced than existing frontline destroyers.

These new vessels are designed to be stealthier and more heavily armed to meet emerging maritime threats.

The programme is intended to strengthen India's ability to project power across the Indo-Pacific region.
