Traffic congestion persists at Delhi-Gurugram border following new emission curbs
Vehicles failing to meet BS-VI emission standards face entry restrictions in the national capital, causing delays on major roads.
Heavy traffic congestion was reported on the Old Delhi-Gurugram road at the Delhi-Haryana border on Tuesday, according to the Hindustan Times.
The delays have been a recurring issue since the Delhi government implemented a ban on vehicles below the BS-VI emission standard on November 1.
Congestion was also noted on National Highway 48 from Sarhol towards Delhi at 10:30 am, with slow movement observed near Ambience Mall.
Assistant commissioner of police (Gurugram Traffic Headquarters) Saytapal Yadav said teams were deployed on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, MG Road, Old Delhi-Gurugram Road, and Dwarka Expressway.
Yadav added that police are coordinating with Delhi counterparts to manage the traffic. Slow movement was also reported near Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sadar Bazar, and Southern Peripheral Road.
The Delhi government's restrictions, effective from November 1 to January 31, prohibit non-Delhi petrol and diesel vehicles that do not meet BS-VI standards from entering the capital. Gurugram traffic police noted that some Delhi-registered vehicles failing these standards were also being denied entry.
