Telangana hospital building project faces inconsistencies in reported numbers

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha set a March 2027 deadline for 25 hospital buildings despite conflicting figures from officials.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has set a March 2027 deadline to complete 25 hospital buildings under the Directorate of Secondary Health Care, according to a report by Urban Acres. The announcement was made during a review meeting in Hyderabad at the Rajiv Aarogyasri Trust office in Jubilee Hills.

During the meeting, Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) managing director Gaurav Uppal informed the minister that nine buildings under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad have been finished. Uppal stated that 11 more buildings are scheduled for completion by March 2027, but the total count of completed and upcoming buildings reaches 34, which contradicts the minister's 25-building target.

The minister ordered officials to equip the nine finished buildings with furniture and medical tools so they can start serving the public. He also told officials to begin the procurement process for buildings due in December 2026 and March 2027 instead of waiting for construction to end.

Rajanarasimha also instructed that all buildings under the Directorate must be finished by the end of 2027. The review noted that 45 other buildings are currently at different stages of construction, though the connection to the 25-building target was not clarified.

The minister mentioned that approximately 15,000 health department posts, including doctors and nurses, were filled over the last three years. He also advised district health officials to prepare for El Niño conditions to ensure hospital water and electricity supplies are not interrupted.
