Nine arrested after attack on BSF personnel in Tripura
Police detained nine villagers, including three women, following an assault on Border Security Force personnel in Sepahijala district.
Nine people were arrested during an overnight operation following an attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday. According to The Federal, the arrests were made after a group of villagers allegedly attacked the personnel following the detention of an individual suspected of involvement in smuggling activities.
The assault, which occurred on Monday morning, left at least three BSF jawans, including an assistant commandant, injured. The Deccan Chronicle reported that the mob vandalised a BSF vehicle and attempted to snatch firearms from the personnel during the incident.
Sepahijala Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Debbarma stated on Tuesday that the nine arrested individuals include three women who were directly involved. He added that ten more people have been identified for their involvement but are yet to be arrested.
Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the attack, describing the violence against security forces as completely unacceptable. As reported by The News Mill, the Chief Minister directed authorities to take swift and stringent legal action against those responsible.
The investigation is being personally monitored by the Director General of Police. BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Princee Rani also visited the village to assess the situation, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
The arrested individuals were produced before a local court on Tuesday to seek remand, the SP said.
