The 22-time Grand Slam champion has accepted the club's proposal to join the boardroom following his retirement from professional tennis.
Tennis legend Rafael Nadal is set to join the board of directors at Real Madrid, according to a report by The Times of India on Wednesday. The Spanish football club has offered the former world No. 1 a position on its board, which Nadal has accepted.
The appointment was agreed upon by the Real Madrid board during a meeting on November 4. The proposal will now be sent to the General Assembly of Delegate Members for ratification. Nadal is already an honorary member of the club, registered as member number 67,778.
Expressing his gratitude to President Florentino Pérez and the board, Nadal stated on social media that he is eager to learn and intends to offer his full support to the club. He described the opportunity as something he accepted with significant enthusiasm.
Real Madrid released a statement calling Nadal's inclusion an immense honour. The club noted that his sporting and human stature makes him a reference in global sports and that his values, such as humility and respect, align with the club's identity.
The club also highlighted his professional achievements, including 92 tour-level singles titles, two Olympic gold medals, and five Davis Cup wins. Nadal retired from professional tennis in November 2024 after a career that included 14 French Open titles.
Nadal recently mentioned in an interview with The Associated Press that he remains active with various events and travel following his retirement. His new role at Real Madrid will allow him to contribute to the club's future.
