Dairy brands hike prices of ghee, butter and paneer
The Karnataka Milk Federation union and Amul have increased prices for various dairy products due to rising costs.
The Bangalore Urban, Rural & Ramanagara District Co-Operative Milk Producers Societies Union Limited (BAMUL) has increased the prices of ghee, butter and paneer, according to The Hindu. The revised rates, released on November 4, were set to come into effect across Karnataka from November 5.
BAMUL's price changes follow previous increases for milk and curd of more than Rs 8 per litre. A one-litre ghee sachet previously priced at Rs 715 will now cost Rs 850, while a one-litre ghee tin rose from Rs 750 to Rs 870.
Other BAMUL price updates include a 100 gm butter blister pack increasing from Rs 600 to Rs 900. A 200 gm paneer pack has risen from Rs 96 to Rs 115, while a one kg paneer pack moved from Rs 480 to Rs 485.
Separately, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), which sells products under the Amul brand, hiked prices effective November 2, Moneycontrol reported. GCMMF stated the revision for Amul table butter, Amul ghee, and Amul cow ghee was due to increased milk production input costs.
Amul table butter for a 500 gm pack increased from Rs 310 to Rs 325. The one-litre pouch for Amul ghee rose from Rs 630 to Rs 680, while cow ghee increased from Rs 695 to Rs 735 per litre.
P.C. Rao, honorary president of the Bangalore Hotels Association, said the price hikes represent a huge financial burden on the hotel industry. He noted an additional 25 per cent burden including milk, curd, paneer, ghee, and butter prices.
