Armed man holds shop employee hostage during robbery attempt in Bengaluru
The accused allegedly attacked a 23-year-old receptionist and attempted to steal her gold mangalsutra worth approximately Rs 4.5 lakh in Indiranagar.
A helmet-wearing man allegedly entered a shoe and bag repair shop on 100 feet road in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, on October 31 and attempted to rob a 23-year-old receptionist.
According to The Hindu, the accused entered the shop around 11.45 a.m. and jumped over the counter, claiming someone was trying to kill him. He allegedly assaulted the woman, applied gum to her hands to stick them to a desk, and forcibly removed her 35-gram gold mangalsutra worth around Rs 4.5 lakh.
The woman managed to free her hands and raise an alarm, causing passers-by to gather. The accused allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair and held a knife to her neck to prevent people from approaching.
When the shopowner and others tried to overpower him, the man allegedly swung the knife at them and attacked the owner before attempting to flee with the stolen chain.
The police stated that the accused has been remanded to judicial custody. An officer said preliminary information suggests the man may be experiencing depression and mental health issues.
