Two men detained under Goondas Act for alleged financial crimes
The suspects were arrested in Andhra Pradesh after allegedly cheating a businessman of ₹2 crore with promises of a large loan.
The Greater Chennai Police have detained two men under the Goondas Act for their alleged involvement in extensive financial crimes, according to The Hindu.
Chennai Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj issued the detention orders on October 28 based on recommendations from the Entrustment Document Fraud (EDF) Prevention Wing of the Central Crime Branch.
The action follows a complaint from Manivannan, a businessman in Anna Nagar, who alleged that Muthuvel, also known as B.M. Chettiyar, and his associate Gurubaran, alias Jagan, cheated him.
Manivannan alleged the suspects promised to secure a ₹50 crore loan at a low interest rate and took an advance of ₹2 crore, signed blank cheques, and papers before threatening him for more funds.
The suspects were arrested by a police team at Ongole in Andhra Pradesh on October 20 and were later remanded in judicial custody.
Investigations revealed multiple pending cases against the men for allegedly cheating various people of over ₹100 crore. They are currently lodged in the Puzhal Central Prison.
