School education minister Deepak Barman announced that the Singur movement chapter will be removed from textbooks as part of a revised syllabus.
The West Bengal government will include the life and contributions of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee in the school curriculum, according to Rediff.
School education minister Deepak Barman said on Wednesday that the revised syllabus will place more emphasis on the history of the state and its prominent personalities.
Mookerjee will be mentioned in every textbook with a brief introduction to his life, Barman told reporters. The chapter on the Singur anti-land acquisition movement, which was in the Class 8 syllabus, has been dropped.
The committee that prepared the syllabus also recommended removing the chapter on the Kanyashree scheme from Class 6 textbooks. The complete Vande Mataram will be printed at the beginning of every textbook.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be introduced as a structured subject for students in classes 5 to 8. Third-language textbooks will also be introduced for classes 7 and 8.
