Kerala Cabinet approves steps for maritime museum and oceanarium projects

The state government will form a Special Purpose Vehicle to implement the Mission Samudra projects, according to reports.

The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft Memorandum of Association (MoA) and Articles of Association (AoA) for a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to implement the International Maritime Museum and Oceanarium projects, according to The Hindu and Deccan Chronicle.

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said the SPV will be registered as a Section 8 company and initially established as a foundation. These projects are part of the government's Mission Samudra project.

The oceanarium is intended to be the most advanced in the country, while the maritime museum will showcase the state's maritime history to international standards. Satheesan stated the projects are expected to be delivered within six months.

The Cabinet also decided to create 28 new posts in the Health department to address staff shortages. These include 12 dental hygienist (grade II) and 16 cath lab technician (grade II) positions.

Satheesan noted that the new health posts were sanctioned despite financial constraints due to difficulties hospitals face in conducting operations. The Cabinet also approved supernumerary posts to retain six employees recruited through the Public Service Commission (PSC).

These employees, five from Kozhikode and one from Ernakulam, faced job risks after a court ordered the cancellation of irregular promotions for PSC-recruited typists to the post of clerk.
