Ambala student Kridha Gupta raises Rs 8 lakh for streetlights
Class 12 student Kridha Gupta founded RunX, a women-only running club with over 200 members to address safety concerns.
A Class 12 student from Ambala, Kridha Gupta, has founded a women-only running club called RunX, which has grown to include more than 200 members, according to a report by The Times of India.
Gupta started the club to provide women a space to exercise together. The initiative expanded to address safety issues in public spaces, specifically regarding poor street lighting.
Through RunX, Gupta helped raise approximately Rs 8 lakh to install five streetlights along poorly lit routes in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations in Ambala.
The initiative reached the Mayor's office, and proposals for additional lighting and safer public spaces have entered Ambala's 2026 civic policy agenda.
Gupta also organised the Ambala Martyrs Run with the Indian Army, which attracted around 400 runners and raised about $1,000 for the families of martyrs.
The student was nominated by the Mayor of Ambala to the Chief Minister's Good Governance Associates Programme, where she conducted workshops in more than 20 government schools in rural Haryana.
