Punjab begins distributing property cards under Lal Lakir scheme
The Aam Aadmi Party government has issued 2.19 lakh cards across 1,377 villages as of November 2.
The Punjab government has started distributing property cards to residents in Lal Lakir areas, according to a report by The Indian Express. As of November 2, the administration has issued 2.19 lakh cards across 1,377 villages in 23 districts.
The scheme aims to provide ownership rights for houses and plots in inhabited village areas through drone-based surveys. Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said the initiative is being implemented under the Punjab Abadi Deh (Record of Rights) Act, 2021, which was passed during the Charanjit Singh Channi administration.
Former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said his government initiated the scheme in 2021 and claimed the current government is taking credit for his work. Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also claimed credit, stating he renamed the project 'Mera Ghar Mere Naam' and that the current administration has delayed the process.
The project is being carried out in four stages. The first phase, involving 2,284 villages, has a deadline of November 15, while the second phase aims to finish 1,680 villages by the end of November. The third phase covers 1,152 villages with a mid-December target, and the final 5,579 villages are expected to be completed by January 2027.
Each laminated card includes a survey unit number, GPS location, a drone-generated map, and a QR code for verification. The cards are issued in Punjabi and English to help residents establish legal ownership and access bank loans.
