Government decides on higher fare hike for BMTC bus services
Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh is expected to announce the new ticket prices for Bengaluru city buses and long-distance services on Wednesday.
The government has decided on a higher fare hike for Bengaluru’s BMTC bus services, while long-distance buses will see a smaller increase, according to Deccan Herald.
Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh is scheduled to announce the hike during a press conference on Wednesday.
A final decision on the fare increase was reached during a meeting on November 2, which was attended by the heads of the transport corporations.
The three-member Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee (PTFRC), led by retired IAS officer Atul Kumar Tiwari, had previously recommended a 40 per cent hike for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
The committee also recommended a 25 per cent hike for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and the Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC).
On November 2, Suresh told reporters that while the committee had suggested a very high increase, the actual hike would not be that large.
