Uttar Pradesh to launch welfare packages for farmers and women
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced upcoming support for nearly three crore farmers and new economic initiatives for women.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced upcoming welfare packages for women seeking economic independence and farmers impacted by natural disasters, according to Urban Acres.
The chief minister stated that a special package is being planned for nearly three crore farmers who have faced losses from adverse climatic conditions, such as drought, hailstorms, and excessive rainfall. He noted that standing crops were damaged twice in the last fortnight due to heavy rain and storms.
A separate package for women will aim to help them achieve economic self-reliance, though the state has not yet disclosed the specific details, funding, or programmes involved. Adityanath said the government wants women to live with dignity, security, and independence.
The state will also introduce Annapurna Canteens at agricultural mandis to provide subsidised meals to farmers. Additionally, Annapurna Bhojanalayas are planned for labour hubs being developed for construction workers, though the operating models and launch dates are currently unannounced.
The announcements were made during an event where the state distributed free LPG cylinders to 1.98 crore Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries. This distribution is part of a state scheme providing two free refills annually, costing the government an additional Rs 1,500 crore per year.
The next steps involve the release of specific details regarding the farmer and women's packages and the establishment of the proposed Annapurna food facilities.
