IPS officer Anurag Sujania resigns after removal as Sagar SP

The 2014 batch officer submitted his resignation on November 2 following his recent transfer from the Sagar district.

IPS officer Anurag Sujania has resigned from government service, according to reports from The Hindu and Hindustan Times. Sujania, a 2014 cadre officer, submitted his resignation on November 2 after being transferred from his post as Sagar Superintendent of Police (SP).

Sujania was recently moved to the police headquarters in Bhopal as an assistant inspector general (AIG) of police. His transfer followed the removal of the Sagar SP and Collector Pratibha Pal on October 27. This reshuffle occurred after a hooch tragedy in Sagar in September that killed more than 25 people, according to The Hindu.

A senior IPS officer told Hindustan Times that Sujania cited personal reasons for his resignation and the request has been forwarded to the state government. While Sujania has not commented, an officer in Sagar told The Hindu that Sujania felt the transfer was unfair because the police had conducted a swift investigation and arrested the accused in the Sagar case.

The officer noted that Sujania arrived in Bhopal on Monday, November 2, and may have discussed the issue with senior officials before deciding to resign. Sujania previously served as SP in Morena and Mandsaur districts.

The state government is yet to decide on the resignation. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav convened a meeting of all senior police officers at his residence to review the law and order situation, including discussions on curbing the liquor mafia, according to a CMO officer.
