Delhi government destroys 7,000 kg of unhygienic khoya at Mori Gate market
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the Food Safety Department's crackdown on food adulteration ahead of the Diwali festival.
The Delhi Government's Food Safety Department seized and disposed of about 7,000 kg of foul-smelling and unhygienic khoya at the Mori Gate Khoya Market on Tuesday, according to ANI. This action was part of an intensified crackdown on food adulteration before the Diwali festival.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the market to oversee the operation. She requested details from officials to ensure that the suspected products did not enter the food supply chain or reach consumers.
During the drive, which was the department's fourth at the Mori Gate market, officials collected 44 surveillance samples. Using the ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ mobile testing facility, 35 of these samples failed preliminary on-the-spot tests. Two more samples were sent to a laboratory for detailed examination.
Preliminary testing suggested the presence of binding substances, vanaspati, and milk powder in the material. The Chief Minister stated that the government would not compromise on public health and that those involved in adulteration would face strict legal action, regardless of their influence.
The department previously destroyed 2,830 kg of khoya on September 4, 610 kg on September 8, and 520 kg on October 23. Including Tuesday's operation, the total amount of khoya destroyed by the department this season has reached 10,660 kg.
