Manipur constitutes peace committees in all 16 districts

The committees will focus on community engagement and sustained dialogue to address the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

The Manipur government has formed peace committees in all 16 districts of the state to promote peace-building efforts, according to a Rediff report.

The home department issued an official order on October 30 regarding the decision, which was shared with the media on Tuesday. The move aims to strengthen confidence-building measures and community engagement in view of the prevailing law and order situation.

Each 11-member committee will be chaired by the respective district magistrate. Other members will include the Superintendent of Police, sub-divisional officers (SDOs), sub-deputy collectors (SDCs), and district-level officers from relevant departments.

The committees will also include representatives from different communities residing in the districts. This includes community leaders, civil society organisations (CSOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), local media, journalists, and retired government officers and employees.
