Delhi air quality worsens as AQI hits 508 at Mandir Marg
The capital's air quality remained in the 'Very Poor' category on Wednesday despite the implementation of GRAP-2 restrictions.
Air pollution in Delhi worsened on Wednesday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 369, according to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). The capital's air quality remained in the 'Very Poor' category at 6 am, despite existing GRAP-2 anti-pollution restrictions.
The Indian Express reported that Mandir Marg recorded a 'severe' AQI of 508. Other areas reporting high pollution levels included Jahangirpuri at 447, Punjabi Bagh at 447, Rohini at 433, and Vivek Vihar at 428.
The IITM warned that the current air quality could lead to more serious health issues for the public. The department predicted that Delhi would remain in the 'Very Poor' category on Thursday with an expected AQI of 343.
In response to the pollution, the Public Works Department (PWD) is deploying 200 truck-mounted anti-smog guns. These guns, which can spray water up to 50 metres high, will be used to clean a 1,400 km road network.
In Gurugram, the administration has banned dust-generating construction and demolition from November 5 to 20. Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh also directed that 50 per cent of staff in private offices should work from home, according to PTI reports.
