Hindustan Times launches pollution dashboard for Delhi and NCR residents
The new tool combines official air quality data with weather and farm fire information to provide context.
Hindustan Times has launched a new pollution dashboard to provide residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) with contextualised air quality data, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The dashboard, available on the Hindustan Times website and app, integrates hourly government air quality figures with information on wind speed, wind direction, farm fires, and the mixing height of toxins above the ground.
The platform uses data exclusively from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and Nasa.
Users can view the CPCB's hourly average for Delhi alongside the official 4pm bulletin. The tool also allows readers to see the monitoring station nearest to their location and view a ranking of Delhi's stations from worst to best.
The dashboard includes readings for rain and wind at Safdarjung to show how weather affects air quality. It also features a farm-fire count from Nasa, which the outlet notes is an undercount because the satellite passes over Punjab and Haryana around 1.30pm.
Readers can compare current daily figures with seasonal data dating back to 2015-16. The service covers Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Greater Noida.
