Telangana peak power demand falls by 5,500 MW after rains
Cooler weather and rainfall have reduced the state's need for expensive electricity market purchases, according to Deccan Chronicle.
Telangana's peak power demand dropped to 14,546 MW on November 1, which is approximately 5,500 MW less than the record high of 20,018 MW seen on October 16, according to data reported by Deccan Chronicle.
The decline in demand followed a series of reductions from 20,018 MW on October 16 to 18,216 MW on October 23, 17,636 MW on October 24, and 15,138 MW on October 29. Demand then reached 14,546 MW on November 1 before a slight rise to 14,696 MW on November 2.
Daily electricity usage also saw a decrease, falling from a peak of 337.80 million units on October 16 to 270.41 million units on November 2. This represents a drop of 67.39 million units.
The lower requirements have lessened the state's reliance on expensive power bought from the open market to cover gaps during September and October. During that period, El Nino conditions and high temperatures had driven consumption to record levels.
Agriculture remains the largest consumer, making up nearly 40 per cent of total electricity use. More than 30 lakh agricultural pump-set connections draw about 7,000 MW of power every day.
In the Hyderabad Core Urban Region, peak demand exceeded 12,000 MW, while the city itself touched 4,782 MW in October. Industrial units and cement plants contribute nearly 35 per cent of stable demand, alongside the Hyderabad Metro Rail and various commercial complexes.
