Cybercrime complaints rise 24 per cent in India, dip in Telangana

Director General of Police CV Anand reported a 3 per cent decline in cybercrime cases and a 20 per cent reduction in financial losses in Telangana.

Cybercrime complaints in India rose by 24 per cent during 2024-25, while Telangana recorded a 3 per cent decline in cases, according to The New Indian Express.

Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand stated that Telangana also saw a 20 per cent reduction in financial losses, compared to a 4 per cent decline nationally.

The DGP spoke during the Joint Cyber Crime Coordination Team (JCCT-IV) meeting at the Telangana Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (TGiCCC) in Banjara Hills on Tuesday.

Anand said cybercrime is now an organised industry and suggested shifting focus from recovering money to preventing crimes by denying criminals targets and channels.

The workshop included 45 officers from 13 state law enforcement agencies, including representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) CEO Rajesh Kumar noted that scam compounds are shifting from Southeast Asia to Africa, Sri Lanka and other countries.
