Tamil Nadu to form district advisory committees for sales taxpayers
The committees, led by District Collectors, will meet every three months to resolve sales tax administration issues and taxpayer grievances.
The Tamil Nadu government has decided to establish district-level advisory committees to handle grievances from sales taxpayers, according to The Hindu.
These committees will be led by the respective District Collectors and are intended to resolve sales tax administration matters at the district level.
The decision follows a recent meeting led by Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration D. Logesh Tamilselvan. The committees will meet once every three months to discuss tax issues and take steps to address taxpayer concerns.
Membership includes the Joint Commissioner (State Tax), the Deputy Commissioner (Intelligence), the Deputy Commissioner (Central Tax), and the general manager of the District Industries Centre. Other members include the Deputy Commissioner (State Tax) stationed at the district headquarters, who will serve as secretary.
Ex-officio members will consist of one local Member of the Legislative Assembly, two representatives each from traders, industries, and farmers, and one representative each from consumer forums, cottage industries, and cooperative institutions.
Joint Commissioners (State Tax) of all divisions must form these committees by November 30. The committees will operate until November 30, 2029, with the first meeting scheduled to take place by December 15.
