Female elephant found dead near Jharkhand iron ore mine
Villagers discovered the carcass in a paddy field close to the Landub Gena forest in West Singhbhum district on Wednesday.
An adult female elephant was found dead in a paddy field near an iron ore mine in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Wednesday, according to Rediff.
Chaibasa Divisional Forest Officer Aditya Narayan said villagers discovered the carcass near the Landub Gena forest and alerted forest officials.
A team from the Noamundi forest range arrived at the site with an earth excavator, while a five-member team from Odisha's Nalda sector reached the location around noon to question villagers.
One villager stated that a herd of approximately 20 elephants had been living in the nearby forest and had caused damage to paddy crops.
The forest department reported that no external injury marks were visible on the carcass. A team of local veterinarians will examine the animal to establish the cause of death.
This incident follows the recent death of a baby elephant that drowned in an unconstructed irrigation well in Sindri Gauri at Noamundi.
