Puri to get Rs 1,500 crore international cruise terminal

The facility will be a joint venture between the state government and the Paradip Port Authority to support the Cruise Bharat Mission.

The government is planning to construct an international cruise terminal in Puri at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore, according to Kalinga TV.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal shared the news on Tuesday during a parliamentary consultative committee meeting held in the town. The project will be a joint venture between the Paradip Port Authority and the state government.

The terminal is intended to serve as an anchor for the Cruise Bharat Mission on the Eastern seaboard. This national initiative, which began in September 2024, aims to reach one million ocean passengers and create 400,000 jobs by March 2029.

India recorded 462,661 ocean cruise passengers across 212 vessel dockings in fiscal 2025–26, which is a five-and-a-half-fold increase over the last twelve years.

The Centre is also supporting the development of National Waterway No. 5 with an outlay of more than Rs 13,000 crore. This waterway will use the Brahmani and Mahanadi river systems to link industrial clusters in Talcher and Kalinganagar to east coast ports.
