The medical graduates restarted their statewide agitation on Wednesday after receiving no written government order regarding their pay demands.
More than 600 Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) interns posted at peripheral government medical colleges and hospitals in Telangana resumed their peaceful statewide protest on Wednesday. According to reports from Telangana Today and The Hindu, the interns restarted the agitation after a 10-day break following assurances from Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha.
The interns had suspended their protest from October 24 to November 3 to allow the government time to act. However, representatives stated that no official written order, Government Order (GO), or circular has been issued despite multiple rounds of discussions with health authorities.
The FMG interns are seeking a monthly stipend of Rs 29,792 to match the amount paid to Indian Medical Graduate (IMG) interns. They are also demanding the disbursement of all eligible stipend arrears from January 2026 onwards.
A third demand involves guaranteed protection against victimisation, punitive actions, or arbitrary extensions of their internships due to their participation in the demonstrations. The interns noted that several of their colleagues were detained by police on October 22 while raising their demands.
During a meeting on Tuesday, the Health Minister requested additional time to consult with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The medical graduates, who completed their MBBS in foreign countries, have requested the Health Minister to provide a formal written resolution to resolve the dispute.
