Four militants feared dead in suspected Naga faction gunfight in Manipur
Residents of Taodaizing village fled to safer locations on Wednesday following intense gunfire in Manipur's Noney district.
At least four militants are feared dead following a suspected gunfight between two rival Naga militant groups in Manipur's Noney district on Wednesday, according to The Assam Tribune.
The confrontation reportedly began around 3.30 am in Taodaizing village, located within the Nungba Sub-Division under the Rengpang Police Station jurisdiction.
Preliminary reports indicate that three of the possible casualties may belong to the Zeliangrong United Front (Jenchui faction) and one to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM).
Villagers identified one alleged victim as Aihung Inpui, who was said to be affiliated with the NSCN-IM, though his identity and affiliation remain unverified.
Intense gunfire continued until approximately 11 am, with intermittent firing reported thereafter, causing residents to use loudspeakers to urge villagers to move to safety.
The Rongmei Naga Luphuam, Nungba Area, has appealed to the armed groups to stop hostilities due to rising civilian fears. Police and security forces have not yet reached the site to verify the casualties or the circumstances of the incident.
