Foreign Secretary Misri meets Nepal Foreign Minister to discuss bilateral ties
The two-day official visit aims to prepare for Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah's proposed visit to New Delhi later this month.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in Kathmandu on Wednesday, November 4, to discuss deepening the multifaceted partnership between the two nations, according to The Hindu.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on strengthening longstanding ties and historical friendship. Discussions covered various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including energy, trade, sports, education, connectivity, and security.
Misri arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport earlier in the day, where he was welcomed by Nepal's Joint Secretary Gehendra Rajbhandari and the newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Sudhakar Dalela.
The two-day visit was undertaken at the invitation of Nepal's Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. It is primarily aimed at reviewing the spectrum of Nepal-India relations and preparing for the proposed official visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah to New Delhi.
During the meeting, Khanal stated that the close relations between Nepal and India will gain a new height.
Misri is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Rai, meet Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, and call on Prime Minister Shah before departing for New Delhi on Thursday. This is his second visit to Kathmandu since taking office in July 2024.
