Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri begins two-day official visit to Nepal
The visit aims to discuss the proposed trip of Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah to India and bilateral cooperation.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning for a two-day official visit to Nepal. He was received at Tribhuvan International Airport by Nepal's Foreign Ministry officials, including Joint Secretary Gehendra Rajbhandari, and the newly appointed Ambassador Sudhakar Dalela.
According to ANI, Misri arrived at the invitation of his counterpart, Nepal's Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. A secretary-level meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the agenda for a potential visit to India by Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
A senior official from Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ANI that the meeting includes discussions on reconstruction aid from India following the Bhotekoshi floods. The official added that Misri will make courtesy calls on various ministers and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shah at his office on Thursday.
The Hindustan Times reported that Prime Minister Shah is likely to travel to India during the final week of November. Misri, a 1989-batch Foreign Service officer who has held the post since July 2024, will return to New Delhi on Thursday after concluding his engagements.
The visit follows recent cooperation between the two nations, including a late October meeting between Nepal's Armed Police Force and India's Sashastra Seema Bal regarding border security. Other recent discussions have focused on energy, trade, and connectivity.
