Four ventilators stolen from RIMS Adilabad hospital

Unidentified persons took the equipment from the intensive care unit and wards on October 30, according to reports.

Unidentified persons stole four ventilators from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad district on October 30, according to The Hindu. The equipment was taken from the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) and the Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and Tuberculosis (TB) wards.

The theft was discovered on the morning of October 31 during a shift change when hospital staff were checking equipment. Initially, staff suspected technicians had taken the ventilators for repairs, but the matter was reported to senior officials after the machines were not returned for two days.

CCTV footage examined by hospital authorities showed unidentified persons stealing the ventilators at approximately 2.38 p.m. on October 30. Telangana Today reported that the footage shows two persons stealing the machines while staff were performing duties.

The Adilabad II Town Police have registered a case under Section 303 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) regarding the theft. An investigation is currently underway, though the accused have not been identified.

The total value of the four stolen ventilators is estimated at ₹20 lakh, with each unit costing approximately ₹5 lakh.
