National Conference leader Mubarak Gul defers press conference

Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul postponed his scheduled statement regarding his political future after receiving advice from colleagues and friends.

Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Eidgah MLA Mubarak Gul deferred a scheduled press conference on Wednesday, according to reports by Daily Excelsior and WION. Gul had planned to address whether he would resign from the party or continue his membership.

The leader stated he decided against the announcement to respect the sentiments of his supporters, colleagues, and friends. He noted that many associates have been with him for approximately 55 years, dating back to around 1975.

Gul mentioned that people from various regions, including Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Srinagar, visited his residence to show solidarity. He declined to answer questions from reporters and said he would not disclose any information on Wednesday.

The decision follows dissatisfaction regarding the recent Cabinet expansion under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, where Gul was not included. He had previously expressed displeasure at being overlooked for a ministerial position despite his long tenure with the party.

The leader's organisational role remains unclear following conflicting party orders. On October 27, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah appointed Gul as General Secretary, but a subsequent order on October 30 directed Ali Mohammad Sagar to continue in that role until further notice.

Gul described himself as a fighter and said he would continue to fight, though he did not clarify his future with the National Conference.
