Vaughan jokes about fielding coach role as BCCI invites applications
Former England captain Michael Vaughan reacted to the BCCI seeking a fielding coach for the Senior Women's National Team.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan joked on X that he would be the fielding coach after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the role. The BCCI is seeking a fielding coach for the Senior Women's National Team and a head physiotherapist for the Senior Men's National Team, according to reports from The Times of India and The New Indian Express.
The deadline for submitting applications is November 16. The BCCI stated that the fielding coach will be responsible for creating fielding programmes, conducting practice sessions, and assessing individual player performance in the field.
Vaughan's comments follow scrutiny of India's fielding performance. During the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, the team dropped 10 catches across five group-stage matches, including three against South Africa. Head coach Amol Muzumdar previously noted that the team needs to improve in batting, bowling, and fielding.
Recent series have also seen fielding lapses, such as four dropped catches during a T20I series against Zimbabwe and four more in the opening ODI of a subsequent series. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, and Kranti Gaud were among those noted for missing chances.
To qualify for the fielding coach position, applicants must have played international cricket. They must also hold a BCCI Level 'B' coaching certificate or equivalent with 30 first-class matches of experience, or have coached an international side for one season or a state or T20 franchise for at least two seasons.
The BCCI is also looking for a head physiotherapist to replace Kamlesh Jain, who resigned in September. The new candidate should have 10 years of experience working with elite athletes or high-performance squads.
